Brandy 'N' Port: Bio
Brandy 'N' Port - The Cure For All That Ails You
Brandy 'N' Port is a 4 ounce mix of half brandy & half port & is indeed a cure for all that ails you. Known worldwide as a hangover cure, legend also has it that brandy & port was also used to perk up racing greyhounds should they be under the weather.
Brandy 'N' Port, the band, (who's name was derived from Syd Baxter & Sammy Mcfall lashing them into them like there was no tomorrow at the old Duke of Somerset) was born in April, 1987.
The founding members are Alec Long, Paddy Maher and Danny Byrne. Today's line up is Alec Long, Al Wilmore & Danny Byrne. The band's philosophy is still the same as when it was formed, to play music that appeals to the masses while sticking to their Celtic roots. Whether it be a quaint Irish Pub or a dance for 3000 people Brandy 'N' Port has mastered the stage.
Alec Long - Drums & Vocals
Alec was born in Derry City, Ireland. After performing with many showbands & travelling throughout Northern Ireland, Alec came to Canada with his band Krystal Klear. Soon after, in 1982, he immigrated to Canada & made Ottawa his home. After marrying Danny's sister Maureen, it was a natural fit to form Brandy 'N' Port with Paddy & Danny.
Al Wilmore - Keyboards & Vocals
Al was born in Ottawa & has spent many years in the Ottawa music scene. As an accomplished keyboard player Al is sought after by many local bands because of his musical versatility. Al has travelled with Blues Bands, Rock Bands and now a Celtic Band. The man of many styles adds to the versatile arrangements of Brandy 'N' Port.
Danny Byrne - Guitar & Vocals
Danny started his music career with his good friend Paddy Kelly, and their band The Descendants. After travelling with the Descendants for about 5 years, he too put away the suit case to stay closer to home. Danny then formed a band with Syd Baxter & Paddy Maher called Celtic Mist, which performed locally for a couple of years. With Syd heading off to become a lawyer Paddy & Danny joined Alec to form Brandy 'N' Port.
